Zapd is a phone app that has actually been out for over a year but just recently starting to garner a following. For young and old alike, this app is perfect for anyone who wants to create themselves a website.
Users create websites right on their phones, but before you get too excited, it’s not exactly a professional, high-quality website. It’s technically just a photo album that you can attach pictures from your phone and upload them for everyone to see. And by everyone, I do mean everyone. Zapd is kind of like a tumblr or instagram community in that you can see other users sites when you first visit zapd.com. Using categories, you can browse for ones you may be interested in.
If you’re a person who loves to share your photos, this could be great for you. There are 45 different themes to pick from so they don’t all have to look exactly the same, and it features filters in the photo editor so you can give an instagram-like touch to it.
At this point, you might not notice a big difference between this and instagram or tumblr. Well, here’s one… it allows you to build with other people. Once you add someone as a collaborator, they gain access and are able to add images from their phone to this site.
With social media at the heart of this application, you will see an option for liking or commenting on any and every picture that is posted on Zapd. Putting all the features it offers together, it’s a mash-up of WordPress/tumblr, instagram and Facebook.
Its only downside for smartphone users wanting to try out this app is that it’s currently only available for the iPhone, but with a price tag of free, and a growing user base, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it’s expanded to Android phones.
