“As a website becomes more sophisticated, so must the code that backs it.”
I read this quote from this website http://www.tizag.com/phpT/phpsessions.php as it was talking about PHP sessions. I don’t really remember how or why I ended up on this page but that quote has stuck with me and becomes even apparent as the web changes.
So companies want a more interesting website and even one that does so much more than provide text and picture information, even on that has some artificial intelligence. WYSIWYG editors (What You See Is What You Get) and the untrained employee can only go so far with a website. They work fairly well for very basic websites or sites that someone who knows a little can hack and slash code from.
CMS editors are the same way, they can only do so much for the untrained person. If you want a website that is sophisticated and provides something unique, the code in the site is going to have to be sophisticated as this is what runs the site. Take it one step further and the programmer for your website will have to be that much better than another programmer in order to fulfill your demands on your site.
Keep these things in mind when you are looking at your site and what you want out of it. The old saying goes “you get what you pay for” and it is very true when it comes to websites. TV ads and kids will try to convince otherwise, but there is a huge difference between hiring a highly trained and experienced web designer and web programmer, and using a CMS or WYSIWYG from an untrained person.
