It is very easy to lose track of time being a designer. You get caught up in a project and want to make it perfect. We all know that isn’t going to happen, because we always feel like something more can be done to improve our work. Therefore, time management is very important once we are out in the real world of employment. Here are some simple tips that can help you do just that.
Always have two or more projects going at one time. This always you to send proofs while working on another project and vise-versa. It will keep you busy and on your toes. For some freelancers, it might be hard to do this, if its slow time, but there is always going to be a new client so work ahead if need be.
Make yourself work on the jobs you are not looking forward to first. This will get them out of the way and then that next project will fly by with having so much fun!
Plan out your days work ahead of time. I always make a list at the end of the day at what I am going to focus on tomorrow and what I plan on completing. It does help to be organized, even though for a lot of us we work just as good unorganized, we are designers right, its what we do. Knowing what has to be accomplished the next day will ease your mind.
For those lengthy projects, break them down. Work day by day on it so you are not pushing for the last day to finish it. Back to school basics. There will be those large projects that will take days and having the ability to space it out will be well worth it.
There are so many more time management skills that you can use as a designer, however these are the ones that I have found to work for me. Everyone is different, so experiment and find the right fit for you.
